How to Hard Reset HTC G1 Phone

A master reset restores the original factory settings and will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, contacts stored in the handset memory, etc. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). Back up all necessary data on the device memory before proceeding.
Menu Path Method:
From the Home screen, press the Menu Button and select Settings.
Select SD & phone storage.
Select Factory data reset.
Select Reset phone.
Select Erase everything.
The device will dump all of the data and reload.
Key Stroke Method
If the device is turned on, turn it off.
Note: If the device is not responsive and does not turn off, remove the battery and re-insert it.
Press and hold the Home + Power key.
Keep holding for at least 25 seconds, even if the 'Startup' screen appears.
Release the keys when you see a black screen with a warning sign.
Slide the keyboard open.
NOTE: As a shortcut, press ALT + W to factory reset the device. If this does not work continue with the below steps.
Press ALT+L.
Press ALT+W for 'wipe data/factory reset'.
You should then remove the battery and re-insert it. Then turn the device back on and allow it to startup.
NOTE: might take a few minutes longer than usual to bootup after performing this full reset
